Bangladesh: Chakma woman killed by illegal Bengali setter in CHTs

An indigenous Chakma woman identified as Indra Chakma (45), wife of Surati Chakma, was hacked to death with a sharp weapon by illegal Bengali settler named Mohammad Alauddin at Boalkali village under Dighinala in Khagrachhari district of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs) in Bangladesh on 15 September at around 9 AM.

The local sources told The aPolitical that Indra Chakma had objected to the illegal entry into her land by illegal Bengali settler named Mohammad Alauddin who took his cows to graze over the land of the Chakma family. Following an altercation, Mohammad Alauddin took out his dao (machete) and hacked her to death.

Police later recovered the dead body of Indra Chakma (pictured above) from the crime spot and arrested the accused Mohammad Alauddin, sources said.

Earlier on 12 September, another indigenous woman identified as Balati Tripura, w/o Chandra Bishwa Tripura of Panchhari in Khagrachhari district was gang raped and killed by three illegal Bengali setters. On 13 September, Chandra Bishwa Tripura filed FIR against Mohammad Karim, Mohammad Nuru, and Mohammad Manik in Panchhari. However, police failed to arrest anyone.

On 15 September, Hill Women’s Federation staged a protest rally against the gang rape and killing of Balati Tripura in Panchhari (pictured below).
